The internet browsing experience has evolved, with
browser
tools
and
utilities
such as
top Chrome extensions
becoming integral parts of our daily online interactions. Among these is Remoku, a
Chrome extension
designed to act as a
remote desktop
access
for Roku
streaming
players. Despite the innovative concept, Remoku's aggregate rating is a modest 3.0 out of 5, a reflection of user reviews indicating a mix of satisfaction and disappointment.
Understanding Remoku's Functionality
As part of the vast array of
Chrome
extensions
, Remoku is built on Javascript, CSS, and HTML5. Upon installation, the extension adds a shortcut icon to Chrome, opening up Remoku in a popup window. It essentially turns your browser into a remote control for your Roku streaming player. Setup is intended to be simple: users can control their Roku with the on-screen icons or their keyboard. For further details, Remoku directs users to their help site.
Analyzing User Reviews
Yet, the user experience has not been uniformly positive. Several users, like Luís Soares, Bre SmurkTv, and Pisces Bkaye, complain that the extension simply "doesn't work." S Nazzaro shares a similar sentiment, noting that "The R doesn't show up which means you can't start it." They further expressed frustration with the lack of support or help, branding the extension as "USELESS!"
Phil Dennis had a similar issue, stating that neither the extension nor the main web site worked for him, even after manually entering the Roku address in the settings. Logan shares a comparable experience, describing the extension as "completely inaccessible" because there was "no icon" and it couldn't be used from the settings.
ataw boo provided a more positive review, describing it as "A WONDERFUL APP" before the site went down. Tenchu Shinobi also found the extension to be "muy buena" (very good).
Remoku's Shortcomings
Given these user reviews, it's clear that Remoku's lower rating is primarily due to functionality issues. For some, the extension does not work at all, while others struggle with accessibility and lack of customer support. Additionally, the lack of volume control, as pointed out by Swagbag Scalawag, is a significant drawback for a remote control extension.
Caution Before Installation
It's crucial to consider these reviews before deciding to install this Chrome extension. While the concept of turning your browser into a remote for your Roku streaming player is exciting, the reality may fall short of expectations. Given the mixed reviews and user complaints, users might want to explore other top Chrome extensions that offer similar functionality with higher reliability and user satisfaction.

ts don't work
The R doesn't show up which means you can't start it. There is no support or help of any kind. Don't bother! USELESS!
If you ever wanted to control everything about your Roku except for the volume, this is your app.
never did anything
IT WAS A WONDERFUL APP AN THE SITE WENT DOWN NOOOOOOO
it doesn't work
Doesn't work for me either as an extension or the main web site - manually entered Roku address in the settings but no response from clicking the buttons. Exact same settings in Safari work fine.
